Urban Rappel for the Environment this Earth Day Weekend! at Hilton Meadowlands
Go Over The Edge with the New Jersey Highlands Coalition (NJHC) as we take environmental awareness to new heights on April 20, 2024. This Earth Day you can be one of 90 champions who will experience the thrill of rappelling 200 feet down the Hilton Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Our participants will enjoy breathtaking views of the Meadowlands and the Manhattan skyline and feel the exhilaration of pushing your personal limits!

The New Jersey Highlands Coalition and our partner organizations across the state fight every day to protect and preserve our vital natural resources. The Coalition works tirelessly to protect safe, clean drinking water for 6.2 million people all over New Jersey who rely on Highlands water—every time they turn on the tap. Conservation efforts within the Highlands region and beyond are critical to ensure a sustainable supply of healthy drinking water for ourselves and future generations. The Coalition is going Over The Edge because Every. Drop. Counts. And we know you have what it takes to join us and make a difference!

Over The Edge (OTE) is a peer-to-peer fundraising event to benefit NJHC. You can register today with an initial fee of $50 and raise an additional $950 to secure your space. You will have your own pre-populated fundraising campaign page where you can add your personal story and motivation for going Over The Edge. NJHC and our partner Over The Edge will provide tips and suggestions for successful fundraising. You can ask your family, friends, co-workers, classmates, customers, and clients to support a greener future for us all by donating to your fully tax deductible OTE effort.

There is no experience necessary to participate in OTE. For safety reasons, all rappellers must weigh between 100 and 300 pounds. If you have special needs, please contact NJHC before you register to ensure that Over The Edge can make appropriate accommodations. Minors must have a parent or legal guardian on-site during their rappel.

A week before the event, you will receive an arrival time, approximately one hour before your scheduled rappel time (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 pm). After check-in, you will be fitted with equipment (harness, helmet, walkie-talkie), and a volunteer will escort you on the elevator to the roof access of the hotel. An OTE rope technician will greet participants at the designated training area on the roof, and you will have a chance to practice using the equipment before your rappel. After training, another technician will prepare you for your rappel. Then it is time to take a deep breath and go Over The Edge. After your rappel, stay to enjoy the festivities in the Landing Zone and cheer on other participants as they make their descent.
