Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation Presents Dreams In Action: A Night of African-Inspired Excellence Gala

Brooklyn-based Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit which services students and schools throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens with live entertainment and interactive educational performances, has announced the recipients of their first-ever Impact & Excellence Awards. The award ceremony, which will take place during their inaugural fundraising gala, Dreams In Action: A Night of African-Inspired Excellence Gala, will honor those who have supported Asase Yaa’s mission and programming for youth and communities.

Recipients of the awards include Atiba Edwards, President & CEO, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Cheryl Todmann, Founder & Executive Producer, Stars of New York Dance, Sheena Wright, NYC’s first Deputy Mayor, and Malik Yoba, actor & CEO, Yoba Development.

Asase Yaa has enlisted the support of several major corporate sponsors for the evening, including Bed-Vyne Brew, Black Star Travel Group, Con Edison, Open Society Foundation, The Adinkra Group, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Turner Construction, Art of Living and Campell and Carr. Their community partnership sponsors include Dr. Safiya Bandele, Egbe Iwa Rites of Passage Program, and Regal Roots LLC.

Sharon Gordon, a multi-talented and acclaimed journalist, actress, and film producer will serve as Host/Mistress of Ceremonies alongside Marlon Rice, a published author, writer, and consummate curator of outdoor programming in Central Brooklyn. The headlining performers will include the Asase Yaa Youth Ensemble, Arkestra Africa feat. Amma Watt, an 11-member Afro beat band, and The Jouvayfest Company, the award-winning 2023 J’ouvert Band of the Year- “THE RED LETTERSSSSS” (presented by the West Indian American Day Carnival Association).

Doors Open and VIP Cocktail Reception runs from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The main event, performances, and Award Ceremony takes place from 8:00 – 9:00 pm, followed by the after-party from 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
