While many New Yorkers are guilty of pooh-poohing the megaclubs here in town -- crowing about the latest in trendy lounges or cool bars -- somewhere deep down we all feel a twinge of resentment when towns like Vegas and Miami get more credit these days for the massive nightspots that our city pioneered. One monster-size venue has survived the Giuliani purge: Webster Hall, the room acclaimed by many to be the first modern nightclub in history. After undergoing a $3 million makeover last year, and with 4 different floors to explore (each with its own distinct style of music and décor), this world-famous party superstructure hosts what are easily the biggest parties in NYC every Friday and Saturday night. Every Friday night features the best electronic DJs from around the world at the long-standing Girls & Boys party. On Saturday nights starting at 10pm, the club transforms into CIRCUS—a once-in-a-lifetime interactive club-circus party featuring aerialists, illusionists, fire breathers and more. Visit their website for all upcoming events and more info. 125 E. 11th St. (Third-Fourth Aves.), 212-353-1600; websterhall.com.
A throwback to the fabled days of New York nightclubs, B.B. King Blues Club & Grill features top-caliber music stars and an American Continental menu with a Southern flair. The Showcase Room has video screens and state-of-the-art sound, table seating, a bar where you can snack and listen, and a dance floor. During June, they’re celebrating their 10th anniversary, while July brings shows including Strawberry Fields - The Ultimate Beatles Tribute (7/3), Wang Chung (7/7), and Bell Biv Devoe (7/16). The Beatles Brunch is also offered every Saturday afternoon at noon (doors open at 11am). Lucille’s Grill (named after B.B.’s famed guitar), located next door, features the full menu and free live music every night at 8pm. Visit bbkingblues.com for a list of upcoming shows at both venues. 237 W. 42nd St. btw. Seventh & Eighth Aves., 212-997-4144.
