This exhibition offers a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of Samuel Bell Waugh’s famous (and huge) painting: The Bay and Harbor of New York. Providing a rare depiction of early immigration in the United States, it explores the individuals and communities who viewed New York as a beacon of hope and freedom, seeking new beginnings. Visitors can learn more about ongoing preservation work by seeing it live in the gallery and also through hands-on opportunities.

Conservator Gary McGowan will be on-site working on the painting on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
